Not my normal genre, but I purchased the first three American Wonders books for my library as they sounded appealing and I wanted to read one for myself.

The series all contain a strong-willed woman, carving a spot for herself in a patriarchal world, and doing so set in one of our National Parks. Each book is a standalone, however, so they can be read in any order. I chose A Distance Too Grand because my husband and I visited the Grand Canyon several years ago and loved it.
