This is an enjoyably strange fairytale, and I especially like how the young "elder sister" is in the form of an old woman throughout most of the book. The dynamic between her and wizard Howl, an infuriating young "slither-outer" of a man, was great. I did find the plot a bit hard to follow at times, and I'm afraid I might prefer the film a bit in that respect. Still, this feels like a modern classic. ...more

A pretty fun story that makes me want to watch the movie now. I like the characters and the humorous oddities of this book and will move on to the next book at some point. However, keep in mind that the story is pretty cheesy. You definitely have to be in the right frame of mind to read it.

This was the book that forever made me love fantasy. I read anything I could when I was young, then I got this book for a gift. I received this when I was in grade school, today I am 31, I still read this book.
