This is a quick, easy read with a great deal of sly humor. It was also educational. I had no idea that "city" children were sent out to peasant villages in 1970s China to be "reeducated". I found this aspect of the novel and the boys' experiences to be far more interesting than the actual storyline of the boys obtaining a suitcase of banned novels by Western writers. They don't even get the suitcase until halfway through the book. What did not work for me was the lack of resolution or the Little ...more
