Potatoes and disco. Hehehe.
Easy, quick read. The multiple narrators and switched point of views gets a little cumbersome, but overall it's very well done. It almost reads like a non-fiction book, sort of a Dummies for People Stranded on Mars. Anyone with a remote interest in space travel should enjoy it.

I really do not understand how this book is a best seller. I have not seen the movie and after reading the book I am not compelled to. The writing was dry, dry, dry as the red dust on Mars. There was no character development and really I had no interest in the survival of the main character.
I get that there is science involved but a writer of a novel, a fiction novel, should be able to make the science aspect interesting.
Thankfully this was a quick read.

I understand the people who didn't like this book, and I can see how the writing story can get annoying, but it wasn't enough to ruin it for me. This book was just plain good. If anything, I wish it were a bit longer so we could see the return home. It was generally funny, and always interesting, although predictable enough in the problem/solution/problem pattern.

The Martian is in the first class of modern science fiction: thrilling, fascinating and scientifically accurate. Andy Weir's debut novel is a must-read for fans of the genre and also the general reader, as its wonderfully human narrative is totally gripping. I can't wait for Ridley Scott's upcoming film based on the book.
