What Members Thought

I've read a lot of complaints about this novel, both concerning the pace and the content. I think that's why it took me so long to finally decide to pick it up, and I have to say, I'm disappointed that it took me so long!
Many people seem to complain about the slow start and how it takes the first quarter of the book before they were really invested. That wasn't an issue for me at all; I started reading and didn't want to stop! There is a lot going on, which can be a little confusing at the begi ...more

I could not put this book down. I loved the twists and turned and how all the characters came together.
It was very meaty, and if you are looking for a "light" read this is not your book.
It took a look at the dark side of humanity, and how individuals can be cold and cruel for their own enjoyment.
I found a parallel in the Vanger family and Lisbeth as to how mental illness can ravage a family, but in different ways. The Vangers were the "haves", so as it did not elude to it specifically, how coul ...more

It took a perfect storm of events for me to pick up this much-hyped book, namely, I read through all the books I brought on vacation and the B&B had this one on the bookswap shelf. Not to mention the massive buildup of pressure from friends and family (except you, Megan, I should have listened!) that if only I would "put up with the slow opening and give the series a try, the last book would be totally worth it!" Which is what, in another 1000+ pages of Swedish white-collar corporational legales

What a long book, and so page turning. Yes, the Swedish names and currency and cities and politics is very confusing, at times. BUT-Larsson does an excellent job with his characters, setting, and story line. I also enjoy his name dropping of other mystery writers throughout the novel. The story centers on Lisbeth Salander, but Larsson devotes the majority of the novel to Mikael Blomkvist. I mistakeningly read The Girl Who Played With Fire, first; so I had knowledge of what would happen, but stil

I had seen many references to this book but had my reservations, but eventually gave this book a go, a wopping book of 538 pages.
But wow what a surprise, fantastic.
The Prologue was a bit boring but it did set the scene, then you went into part 1, and it became a great page turner one of those rare books you can't get enough of and grudge every minute not reading.
I loved Mikael and as for Lisbeth, not a nice person, but there is something about her that as her character grows you start to gain sy ...more
