Vera Wong is back and just as pushy and opinionated as ever! Life is good for Vera she still gets up at 4:30 every morning to go walking then comes back to her Teahouse to open up but she always checks to make sure there is not a body in her business...LOL! She spends time with her adopted family especially little Emma and her son Tilly is dating Detective Selena Gray who Vera is already calling her daughter-in-law (much to Tilly's chagrin) and hop Trigger warning: Human trafficking is mentioned

Vera Wong is back and just as pushy and opinionated as ever! Life is good for Vera she still gets up at 4:30 every morning to go walking then comes back to her Teahouse to open up but she always checks to make sure there is not a body in her business...LOL! She spends time with her adopted family especially little Emma and her son Tilly is dating Detective Selena Gray who Vera is already calling her daughter-in-law (much to Tilly's chagrin) and hoping for grandbabies soon! So she should be happy...right? Vera is wishing for another body to pop up so she can investigate murder.

Then she meets a young lady outside the police station when she is dropping off lunch for Selena as well as the entire SFPD (she cooks a lot of food). The young lady runs away but she is clearly in trouble and Vera wants to help her because she is a quote "good Chinese mother." When she goes to Tilly & Selena's place to feed the cat while they are away Vera discovers Selena's case files, in her locked briefcase, and among the cases finds a suspected suicide of a John Doe and Vera decides it's not suicide but murder and the police needs her help to solve the case.

Thus starts Vera investigation in which she meets Millie, social media influencer, a fellow Chinatown business owner, and a social media talent agent who all had a connection with the deceased and Vera knows they are hiding secrets and if anyone can get to the bottom of the secrets and solve the murder it's Vera Wong

I love Vera Wong and this second book was better than the first book. Jesse Sutanto has introduced us to a wonderful character in Vera. The mystery grabbed me and as we learn about the dead man and those connected to him I was just hooked. Vera has always inserts herself into the lives of the people and somehow just takes over she's like a Chinese Hyacinth Bucket. She is wise, observant, has a great BS detector, becomes a social media sensation on the TikTok and the Instagram, and is just unstoppable! ...more
