Wow! What an incredible way to flip the script! Jessica Knoll took the power and focus off of the killer, 'The Defendant' and put it on the victims and survivors. My heart breaks for the how the women were treated and their stories dismissed when all of this happened. My only real critique of the book is that this story jumps back and forth between multiple timelines and a few times I had to pause to remember which timeline I was reading. But otherwise a knockout book!

I am not going to reiterate the synopsis or say anything specific about this book.. All I can say is WOW!!! The take-away I received from this book is "complicated grief". And it's not just for death. I had to stop reading a few times because of the real emotions of the characters felt.... familiar. I felt like I was listening to one of my friends.
Yes it's about getting a serial killer. But it is also about friendship, rejection, acceptance, loyalty and true love..

Absolutely compelling and brilliantly plotted, from edge of your seat moments and ominous flashbacks, to decades long efforts to obtain justice. The broad definition of victim and of the wide impact of violence against women is explored in heartbreaking detail.

This book was so good and so full of heartbreak.

3.5 rounded down to 3 stars. I struggled whether to round the stars up or down. Could have gone either way.
Was an interesting reminder about how society trained women how to act (like a lady) and what to accept (harassment and violence from men) much for readily in the 1970's.
This a fictionalzed account of Ted Bundy, who is only referred to as 'The Defendant'. In the aftermath of his killing spree at FSU, either another story about a possible victim four years earlier in the Seattle area. ...more
