4.5 stars Read this book in no time flat, even while reading 2 other books, I flew through it. Finlay, Vero, and all their assorted family, friends, frenemies, & enemies are engaging, and the plot moves right along. It is a wild & fun ride and just what I needed to shake me out of the doldrums the real world continues to cause. Very highly recommended, thanks Women of Mystery for choosing it for a September read!

I was in the mood to read something fun, something to distract me at least temporarily. (Of course, most books do distract me to varying degrees.) I asked my new friend at the Collective Bookstore in Verona what I should read to distract me from my empty nest blues. This book was the ticket. The main character, Finlay Donovan, a mom of two little ones and a struggling murder mystery writer, was forced into an awkward situation and needed to solve an actual murder. Finlay Donovan Is Killing It is a fun read and a total comedy of errors. The writing tool of an-author-writing-about-an-author has been employed before, but not likely in such an entertaining way. I'm not someone who laughs out loud a lot, but there were times when reading this book that I actually did. (And, when I didn't, I was laughing on the inside.) The characters were developed and interesting. It was easy to feel sorry even for those not so likeable characters. (Though, I do wonder about ...more
