Science-y action abounds in this well told story of a man out to save the world from an apocalypse! And by “science-y action” I mean running experiments, looking at microscope slides, and bouncing around in zero-g. If that sounds boring to you, it’s not - at least not in this novel. There are definitely a few surprise moments in this story, but it’s the balanced storyline that kept me wanting to turn the page. Weir does a great job in mixing hold-your-breath moments, with chapters that make you

This hyped space opera has been quite divisive since its release. And that not surprising, I can understand both the love and the frustration with this one. I liked it enough but it required lots of suspension of belief to really enjoy. But, the underlying themes are solid.
Like everyone else, the less said about the plot, the better. The initial setup is Ryland Grace awakes alone on board a space ship from a coma with retrograde amnesia. We soon learn he is on his way to save E ...more

Science fiction is totally out of my wheel house. I can’t recall ever reading a science fiction selection. Having made that clear, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the writing and the way Weir presented the back story.
I would rate this book a 4.5 if I could give a half star. The only negative about Hail Mary for me was the science aspect, too many numbers and calculations.

Weir does space writing so well, especially when it comes to explaining principles and concepts; however, I couldn't fully invest in or enjoy the story bc the only reason the MC survives is sheer luck/hand of the author. Bc Weir knows Grace's contact with an alien species is going to work out, Grace becomes completely stupid (even though he's a BIOLOGIST) when it comes to safety and bio-hazards. And I get it; that stuff is boring and takes forever. Alien may not have happened if they'd followed

Gosh, this book really took me by surprise! I had read Weir's other well-known book, The Martian and found it very slow. It just didn't capture me, as it did most others, so I went into this book thinking I probably wouldn't like it either. My SIL had read book and kept encouraging me to give it a try. He loved it along with The Martian, so I was still skeptical. After about 20 pages, I told him I was liking it more than I thought. He told me it was going to just keep getting better and better,

You just can't go wrong with Andy Weir! I love the sarcasm and his choice of alien really tested my cringe-reflex. I couldn't put this book down, the pace was so fast and the whitism was addicting. This was a great read and I'm looking forward to his next book. (I'm still smirking with amusement just remembering my reading experience!)

I never thought I'd love a book as much as I do this one! I don't want to let this story go! I know I'll be re-reading it in the future and hope my kids will eventually enjoy it as much as I did! 5 stars for Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary! 😍😍

My first 5 star of the year!!!
I genuinely love this book. There is this one moment in the book that pops into my head all the time and has me always dissolving into stitches because its oh so very scientific: "Um."
The humor I loved in The Martian is still prevalent. Oh, I swear the best part of this book was Rocky. Loved him. Loved the dynamic between Rocky and Ryland.
I'm so buying this the next time I get the chance. ...more
