An enjoyable page turner. The windup? A tear jerker for some, but I was not engrossed enough for that sort of emotion, despite the beautiful love story. I felt there were alternatives and didn't relate to the reasoning and emotion behind the windup.

Getting frustrated with these siren song beginnings that pull me in and lead me to believe the book will be the most amazing book I've ever read, only to find myself bored and disappointed by the time I get to the middle. The premise was good, the writing wonderful, but then it quickly became far fetched and tedious. And the ending. Gah! Without spoiling it, I get that the altruism was supposed to move me, but it just left me feeling.... kind of nothing. Sad this book didn't live up to ...more

This book was a meh and overhyped for me. I was really into it for the first half but by the second half I started to lose interest. I also found it annoying that the author couldn’t think of other verbs to use instead of “says”. Everything was I said, he said, Bailey said. It got repetitive after awhile.
An enjoyable mystery by Laura Dave, released in May, 2021. ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’, was a mystery focusing on the disappearance of Owen Michaels, Hannah’s husband. I would not consider this novel a thriller or even very suspenseful. What I really enjoyed about the story was how Dave developed Hannah and Bailey’s (Owen’s daughter from a previous relationship) dynamic/relationship. When all the pieces are finally put together on paper, this ended up being a really great read.
