What Members Thought

I really wanted this book to be more likeable based on the reviews. But I struggled to get through it. I did like some of the characters... well, really all of them except Duchess. The story just dragged on for me. I live historical fiction, this just didn't do it for me. It held enough attention for me to finish the book which is why I gave it 3 stars versus 2. And I loved Billy.

“Questions can be so tricky, he said, like forks in the road. You can be having such a nice conversation and someone will raise a question, and the next thing you know you’re headed off in a whole new direction. This book started off with so much promise and that made it all the more disappointing that it never seemed to go anywhere. There's a lot of activity and movement and many themes were hinted at but it all left me cold and unsatisfied. Most of the characters were flat and I never understood what the so-called friends saw in each other. Much of what happened strained credulity. This was almost a great book and instead it felt like a muddle.
