After reading this for the second time I can still say that I have a major book hangover.

First of all when you decide to pick up this book you need to realise that it isn’t the same as here other series and this is where I partly struggled. Yes, this is paranormal fiction and it is aimed at older audiences and taking a step back here and really evaluating it shows that the author has matured and that although different she has take 1st read 21-23/03/2020 - 5 Stars

Yes, this is paranormal fiction and it is aimed at older audiences and taking a step back here and really evaluating it shows that the author has matured and that although different she has taken a different path. It is full of archangels, angels, demons, fae, all types of shifters, and humans.

Half fae/half human Bryce Quinlan's world crumbles when her one and truly constant is gone. She has suffered a tragic loss and two years later she is still paying the price by torturing herself of what happened that night to her best friend Danika. To top it all off since then she has been on everyone’s shit list. I need to remark on something in the blurb here, two years later she doesn’t seek oblivion in the nightclubs IMO. She acts like a party girl but she isn’t. She has a lot of secrets and no one to share them with. She keeps her head down until two years later murders start again.

I adore Bryce, her snark, her sass, her loyalty and even her pig-headedness. She is totally kickarse and that scene in the gallery? I totally want her to have my back. Especially with the vacuum cleaner.

But she won't be trying to find the culprit a lone. Hunt Athalar is the angel of death and the personal assassin of the archangel Micah. He is also a slave and has no choice in the assignments that he is given. To help with the murders he is assigned to protect Bryce and a slash friendship, kinship, to lovers emerges but Hunt also has a hidden agenda.

Hunt was perfect until that one point where he wasn’t, good to know that he has some flaws. Maybe too little, too late he realised the revenge wasn’t want it was meant to be.

Apparently SJM is no longer popular which I honestly don't care about. She is still a fantastic writer and has created a fantastic world with excellent characters. Her books do tend to wind up being arse long but you know that you will get something unique. I did struggle at times with the extensive world building and in places it did drag a tad but once I got it all sorted it worked out and I could be pulled in by the story and the action of the book.
