overall, i liked this book. it seemed to drag in some areas, & i wasn't particularly happy with the ending. there were definitely a couple of loose ends left, i won't get specific so as not to spoil it for anyone. it was, however, extremely impressive for an author's debut novel! she wrote 2 sequels, but i don't think i'll bother reading them.

I loved this book.
I mean,really, I loved this book! but, did you see my rating.... yeah. I loved it up until it ended.

The writing style is lovely and captivating. The characters are beautifully human and real. I love the main character and his partner. I loved his beautiful memories and the chilling realization that his mind was somehow incomplete, with holes and lies interwoven between the truth. but, that's where it stops.

The beginning of this book was troubling but mainly because the author used too much Dublin slang and I hadn't a clue what she was talking about. After awhile, it settles into a nice depressing story that was like a train wreck you just can't look away from. If you like a story to have a feel good ending, you need to pass this series up as you will definitely not find what you are looking for here.

This is my first book by Tana French and I also think my first book based in Ireland. This was a very interesting book. The story starts by telling us about an incident that happened in 1984. Three children went into the woods and 2 disappeared and the third was covered in blood. So what happened to the other 2?

That is what you are told in the beginning. Now 20 some years later there is another murder in the woods and now the detectives need to find out if the 2 are related. Plus one of the dete ...more

Shelves: mystery, audiobook, girl-power, challenged, adult, series, zz-2019, award-winner, overrated, barely-finished

2.5 stars. Got 100 pages into story and though it was interesting, it was not compelling and I'm having a tough time getting through it so I switched to audiobook. It eventually got better, but it actually got worse before it got better. I started out liking Rob, especially his partnership with Cassie, but despised him by the end of the book. Surprised that I didn't like this best-selling mystery novel, but I rarely like books with main characters that I dislike.

Rob Ryan is a police officer on the murder squad. When he was 12 Ryan's two best friends disappeared from the woods in Knocknaree and Rob is foudn clinging to a tree with blood in his shoes and no memory of what happened. Now Rob and his partner Cassie are called to the scene of a child murder that occured near those same woods and may be connected.
