What Members Thought

In this alternative England, people can jump into literature and characters can leave the story and enter real life. As the author puts it - a cross-fertilization between works of fiction and reality. Some of the character names are hilarious - Jack Schitt, Paige Turner and Mr. Stoker (who works in the vampire division). Very creative and funny.

Love what's been done with the Classics.
Audience participation in a night with Richard III was so much fun. Makes me actually want to go to another Rocky Horror viewing.
And getting literally caught up in a Wordsworth poem sounds enchanting.
Conversely what was done to Jane Eyre means it and other classic mentioned should be re-read.
The "did Shakespeare really write Shakespeare" debate continues.
Fun introduction to the series. ...more

this really is a fabulous read. Fforde has a clever and innovative take on classical literature - in the main Jane Eyre but there are references to Shakespeare and Martin Chuzzlewit. He juggles an introduction to the life of Thursday next with a mystery story surrounding Acheron hades, Goliath and Spec ops. yes there are some things that jar in the storyline but overall it is a great read. I have read a lot of Fforde and love to know what he has against Wales
