What Members Thought

I read this after seeing it described as
Eleanor Oliphant
meets Clue. I've never seen the Clue movie, so I can't speak to the latter, but I only got partial Eleanor vibes. Instead, I'd liken it more to
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
. It's also not a thriller, despite Goodreads listing "Mystery Thriller - 702 users" as the 3rd-most-popular shelf and "Thriller - 542 users" as the 5th. It's more of a "cozy mystery" and in a way reminiscent of

"It’s easier than you’d ever think—existing in plain sight while remaining largely invisible. That’s what I’ve learned from being a maid."
Molly is a maid in the luxurious Regency Grand Hotel. Molly is also different. Her social skills set her apart and her naivete leads her to misunderstand other people's intentions. She turns her quirks into an asset, returning guests' rooms to a state of perfection each day. She forms relationships with some of the frequent guests who sometimes reward her with ...more

I enjoyed this. I really liked the characterisation, in some parts more than the narrative. Molly is socially inept but proud of her job at the Regency hotel. Brought up by her Gran to always do right but at times not knowing what that right is. Unconsciously she has become embroiled in nefarious dealings. She trusts the wrong people but is fortunate that the right people are also at hand. As much as it is a closed room murder mystery it is a tale of right triumphing over wrong. It is an excelle

This book was a fun read! An important topic is very properly depicted in that many times those that struggle with social skills get taken advantage of.
Molly is one of these people…she is a hard worker but struggles with catching on to a lot of the euphemisms used in everyday language. Her Gran works diligently at teaching her how to recognize when one is being truthful or sarcastic.

I loved this book. I loved Molly so much. I can't decide if she has autism or OCD but I do believe she had a mental disability of some kind. Having raised kids with autism, OCD, Bipolar and depression I recognized Molly's need to have everything neat and orderly and in the right order. Both my 3rd son is OCD and my 6th son (my baby) is on the spectrum and between the two of them I spotted Molly's disability right away.
