I wasn't sure about one of the main characters, Malloy, when I first started reading this but I realized as the book went on that he's wasn't as bad as he initially looked. The book also reminded me a bit of Anne Perry books. For me, the stronger part of the book was the personal lives of the main characters and their partnership. The mystery itself was mostly predictable and didn't hold my interest as well. But it was an enjoyable and kind of relaxing read and I'm looking forward to the next bo

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. It was interesting, entertaining and surprising. I loved Sarah, the main character and loved the insights she had into the time she was living in. I am definitely looking forward to reading more in this series. #1 of my 10 authors to try this year.

Sarah Brandt is a widowed midwife living in New York City in 1895. While visiting a client she discovers a young woman, who she knows from when she lived with her wealthy parents, has been murdered. Sergeant Frank Malloy asks for Sarah's help looking through the woman's belongings and Sarah ends up helping investigate the case. I liked the two main characters and feel that the author did a good job depicting the time period. I did solve the case fairly easily. I do plan on continuing the series

A little bit of a slow start but ended up being a great story. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
