And thus begins The Chowder Society - a group of men that have grown from late teens into their early to mid 50's together. They get together every so often and ask that question above - and one of them always answers with the 2nd line and continues with a story.

Although I don't think Peter Straub is quite the same as Stephen King in terms of creating an atmosphere of horror, this is still a fantastic book. A small town in New York, home of the remaining four elderly members of the whimsically named Chowder Society, suddenly finds itself in the depths of one of the worst winters imaginable, not just due to the weather, but also due to the number of people dying. While I did enjoy this book but it is a product of its time. It still held my interest and I will be reading more from Peter Straub. I just wish it was a little more scarier for me.
