Strong 4, maybe even 4.5 stars. I don't usually like anything futuristic or robotic or android, etc, but this world has me fully sucked in. It feels like Cinderella, Tangled, and Wall-E rolled into one series! Can't wait to see what happens next! ...more

08/04/2022: Reread on audiobook!

I can't believe that I never left a review the first time that I read this. This book was abso-freaking-lutely fantastic! It was mesmerizing from the very first page. I was totally engrossed in the story. I love Meyer's writing style and her storytelling is fantastic. I loved the plot twists and the interesting way that the author orchestrated this unique retelling of Cinderella. The parallels were really exciting to see unfold. I loved the science fiction adaptat

I really wanted to love this story. Cinder was interesting to read about and her cyborg additions were just fascinating to hear about (I did both audio and book for this one). The world was so immersing (the plague, the holograms, the old vs new cyborg, even the "car" find at the dump, "New Beijing"...all of it was just fun to explore!!)

but, at the heart of it, it was just a retelling of a fairy tale we already know. Had these characters had the ability to jump OUT of their programmed role and b

3.5 stars. Buddy Read and Group Read. I enjoyed this retelling, but retellings are not really my thing and I found it too predictable. I am looking forward to the next books in the series, but due to the cliffhangers, I will wait until at least the third book is out.

Likes:
* Iko was an excellent sidekick! Iko arrived with Cinder.
* Peony was sweet
* Cinder is a spunky, talented mechanic with secrets she doesn't even know about herself
* Lunar Queen Levana and her ambassador, head thaumaturge, Mistre

Rating: 3.75/5

The book was really gripping and it started it off so well and I thought I'd be giving it +5 stars, but then by the end it left a slight taste of disappointment in my mouth and I felt like I have to notch down the rating...

Full review to come.

Well, I had this book since 2014 on my bookshelf since I found this community called BookTube. But for some reason, I didn't read as soon as I had on my hands. During October I haven't finished the two books I started (one of them is a book I forgot about but remembered where I was left and I am almost done so more about that book on its own book-review). So I felt that I had to read something else, as I was browsing through my large TBR books I spotted Cinder and it was calling me.
I loved the r

Another book long since finished, and another book that took me probably a year to read and actually finish.

I wanted to read it because I know there are so many huge fans of the series, I love YA fantasy / sci-fi series, and I had to at least try the books, right?

I just got really, really stuck in the middle of the book - which is why it took a year to read. I really loved the beginning - definitely my favorite part of the book - and I did enjoy the last 1/3 of the book, but everything else... m

I really enjoyed this and am interested in continuing the series.
But.
This book introduces so many concepts and doesn't explain any of them or delve very deep into them. Why are cyborgs so hated? Why are they treated like second class citizens when it is mentioned a some point that they are humans with prosthetic limbs? Why don't any of the non-cyborg humans stand up for the cyborgs? This all takes place on Earth, right? Just way, way, way in the future, right? How did the Lunars get magic? Why

I love retellings of classic fairy-tales and I think this is one of the most inventive that I have ever read. Cinder was amazing and I had a hard time putting it down, even though I wasn't surprised by the revelation of who Cinder is. I remember stopping at one point in excitement and asking my daughter (after explaining what was going on) did she agree with what I thought was happening. We were both right. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

Very interesting read. Didn't know what to expect but I've seen this on everyone's lists as a not to be missed read. I didn't like the ending. I guess that part of Cinder's story ended but I want to know what happens next! ...more
