womp, womp, womp...why is this novel so overhyped?? Maybe it's the entire Dune series that nails it as this book was just mediocre. I even got the A++ Audible version with full-on sound effects and 'crème de la crème' narrators and all I kept doing was googling "why is Dune so popular?" Don't go to Reddit - it's full of conspiracy theories - lmao!

Yes, yes I know it’s is stuffy and that slows pretty much anyone down. But one must argue that there isn’t much one would dare to skip. Incredibly interesting and rich in lore, it certainly is one of the most complex pieces of science fiction I’ve ever read. And the characters! I feel they are really well developed, even those who were only there for a few chapters. Loved it!
It was good but definitely overhyped for me. I think I also had misconceptions that this was going to be heavily sci fi but it's more about politics and empires than true sci fi. Also, I don't find Paul likable! I didn't have that sense of urgency like I do when I really like a book where I just can't stop listening to it. I did like Jessica and Chani and I did like the narration and some of the story but not as much as I was expecting to because of the hype. I will continue the series though be
