3 stars. A good start to the series. It was slow and a bit boring at times but the characters were fun and I enjoyed the mystery for the most part. The writing was also really good. I liked the ending and it definitely made me excited about picking up book two especially as I hear that the series gets better and better with each book.

This was a fun, fast paced read with the feel of a locked mystery or mysteries because there are two..
Set in Ellingham academy, whose founder believed that learning through games was the best way to go, the story begins with the kidnapping of the wife and daughter of the founder himself in 1936,a case that was never satisfactorily solved.

I remebered a lot from my first read but everything was in a different place than I expected it to be. So it was interesting.
Overall I have to say this book was a little boring. I loved the beginning with Dottie and storyline in 1936 but these chapters were short and there wasn't many of them. On the other side, there is Stevie's storyline. It drags a lot! It takes forever for something to happen and when something finally did happen, it didn't change much. Plus romance came out of nowhere!

First book finished in 2022 and it was a HIT with me! This is one of those books where I am asking why I waited so long to read it?! I know why - I like to wait for entire series to be released, and this book was left on a BIG cliffhanger. As in, practically mid-chapter. The mini-mystery is not solved, the major mystery is not solved. I am READY to read into the next one! And I don't say that easily. ...more

Two stars for the non-ending. I mean, what was that? Who was he meant to be exactly? Just pass on that ending. Other than that, I really liked the dual mysteries Stevie was solving at the same time.

I REALLY Loved this book.

I love Stevie as a character, she's a lot like me, although I wore less black as a teenager! The author captured anxiety perfectly. The mysteries were intriguing, and the setting and characters were amazing!
