The main character, Ed Kennedy, is an annoying character because Markus Zusak wanted us to understand that he leaves a boring life doing the same things every day. Ed's life has nothing exciting and interesting parts are the missions, the messages he has to deliver. The tasks that the cards that are provided to him and shake him out his of a boring life. There were missions that I liked, and there were others I didn't like because of the violence.

I absolutely loved this! Zusak has soared to the top of my favorite authors list with only 2 books, this and the book thief! I expected to love this book in the same way as TBT, but it was a completely different style and attitude throughout the book, and I LOVE that! It was so diverse in moods with quick wit and humor splashed abundantly. However zusak didn't forget his beautiful flow and prose. Some of his philosophic thoughts blow my mind! Definitely recommend!

Nineteen year old Ed Kennedy has major issues with his life going nowhere fast. He's high school educated and a cab driver...that's it. Until he inadvertently captures a bank robber and becomes a local hero. All of a sudden, playing cards with addresses printed on them appear in his mailbox. It becomes apparent to him that he is expected (by some anonymous personage) to help (or hurt when needed) the people at these locations.

Well-written & very easy to read. I enjoyed the conversations between The Doorman and Ed, & the dialogue was good. It didn't really catch my interest in a big way, perhaps I was affected by the pervading apathy - I'll blame Ritchie for that, shall I? I was uninterested in Ed's 3 friends & his family for the most part. I'd give it 3.5* if I could. ...more
