The narration for this is fabulous. I loved that all the MCs had their own narrator it gave them all that something extra. I finally got to reading this book because of the TV show starting up shortly and since I've read the Grisha trilogy I wanted to make sure I knew these characters too.

Now on to the characters. I enjoyed how different they all were, that each one had something that made them tick and all of their values were a little different from each other. If I had to pick a favourite tho ...more

Finally read and understood the reason for the hype around this author and series.
It definitely kept me hooked with the plot and characters and all the emotion in the storyline was a plus. Enjoyed it and looking forward to reading the second in the duology.

Better than Shadow and Bone, but still not amazing. Kaz was my least favorite character, just couldn't connect with him, but I loved Inej and Nina!
The plot is where I have a problem with this book. I feel like things aren't properly explained, and the plot kinda started "out of nowhere". I know not every book needs a war or "end of the world" scenario, but give me something!
Another thing that bothered me is the characters being 16 and 17. Seriously, this book reads like they are in their late 20 ...more

Great story, excellent world building. There was some terribly convenient plot points near the halfway point. I hate books that don’t end though, and this is one of those. I knew it was a part one, but it ends with all the loose threads still dangling. That said, I will very likely pick up part 2.
