02/07/2019: Read for the second time. (Review is from reread. Did not review the first time.)
Warning: This review MAY contain spoilers.
Well, what can I say about this transcendental book that hasn't already been voiced? Not much I know, but allow me to unload the mountain of feels that I have garnered from this book. This is my second time reading this book and the effect on me is not much changed from the first time. I first read this book a few months after it was first released and fell head ...more

"We are all someone's monster."
This is a great story with a complex world but worth the confusion I felt. I like that none of the characters are "the good guy" and yet they all have redeeming qualities - if they are willing to dust them off and use them. ...more

This is the second time reading this book. I have to admit I have this book 5 stars the first time I read it but really the book bored me to tears. I felt like I had to gush and say I loved it because everyone did. I decided to reread it and give it an honest star rating and believe it I'd not the second time was the charm. I TRULY LOVED IT!!! I was so new to fantasy and had just read the Grisha Trilogy that was so amazing. This one wasn't as soon packed until the second half. Im glad I tried it

I loved this book! My only real complaint is that I didn't realize it was a spin-off from another series. Reading that first would have greatly helped with my understanding of the Grisha and the hatred aimed at them.

Kaz Brekker, one of the main forces behind the Dregs gang, is hired to break into a seemingly impenetrable stronghold to retrieve a scientist making a drug that greatly increases Grisha power but kills them. Kaz recruits a group of five other teenagers to perform the heist. The story is told from the POV's of five of the people involved in the heist. Once the heist really got going it was hard for me to put the book down because I wanted to know how it all would turn out. The book ends on a bit

This is a well written book but a more than improbable story line. I found it difficult to understand how characters of such a young age could have all the experience described. Fantasy is not my genre but i am sure for those who do enjoy it the suspense and driven narrative will keep them interested to the end
3.5 rounded up. I don’t know if I was a victim of so much hype before I read this or what, but I just don’t feel like I enjoyed this as much as everyone else. I liked it, but found it kind of dragging in parts. I liked but didn’t love the characters until much later in the story.
I did really enjoy the sarcasm and the ragtag band as a while. I think Nina is my favorite in this. And I also really liked Wylan as the story went on.
One of the twists nearer to the end were also pretty good as well. ...more

I really enjoyed this! There was some nice backstory, and a lot or interesting world building. This story had a kind of steam punk vibe and I couldn’t tell how I felt about it since it lacked a bit of the warmth that makes me really care about the characters. There definitely is a YA feel to this that doesn’t exactly speak to me, but the fantasy elements were so well done that I had to keep reading, well-written. I would recommend this for people who enjoy fantasy, and don’t mind that undertone

Too much harm and danger to kids the age of my children for me to really enjoy. I bet I'd like it more in about five years. I recommended it to my kids though.
