I was alittle worried when I read about this book because the synopsis but the cover (LOVE IT, ONE OF MY TOP 5 FAVORITE COVERS OF 2012) just sounded awesome and I was afraid that it wouldn't live up to the hype. After finishing it, I'm so glad that it was as good as everyone said it was going to be.

Dystopian books have been the craze since Hunger Games came out and some of the books have all been the same. But The Selection is totally different from the others probably because there is no blood and guts and just real emotional feelings. It also has a main character (America Singer- interesting name) who was not afraid to tell it how it is and stick to her gut instead of changing to please everyone else. The whole caste system was very interesting because I think a lot of authors have this type of living situation in their book but it doesn't live up to how it was described in this book. I was surprised that with this book being compared to the Bachelor that the girls were not filmed more with the Prince (maybe they were and we just didn't know it as readers).

Love interests: I liked Aspen in the beginning but when he started acting like America was too good for him because she could get him food and some money, then he started acting like a jerk. When he came back later in the story, I was a little scared of him especially when he said he was injected with this stuff and he felt stronger (uh oh). Prince Maxon surprised me. I thought he was going to be your stereotyipcal rich kid with power but he ended up turning out to be super sweet and loving (have a crush on him now, hehe). So overall, Team Maxon for sure!

One thing that I didn't like about this book (as mentioned above) were the names. Some of them were confusing at times (Tuesday...) but never the less, they were creative. I did however like the relationship that America has with some of the girls in the Selection.

I heard a while back that this was going to be a tv show that the CW was picking up but have not heard anything else about it. I hope they end up doing it, it was be fabulous!

I can't wait for the next book (heard it is going to be trilogy). ...more
