This took me a while to finish cause I kept taking breaks after becoming obsessed with Netflix for a while but I did enjoy it. I choose to read this novel for about 3 reasons:

1. It is pretty popular so I found it everywhere booktok, booktube etc.
2. It was recommended
3. I haven’t read a mystery in a hole and I heard this author was awesome so I j had to check it out.
Lastly I decided honestly it couldn’t hurt so I ordered and read it.

I have to say I was both surprised and disappointed after reading this novel. Mystery is not a genre I am really invested in, however I do prefer mystery and thriller over horror. Regardless of that fact it’s not a genre I normally go searching for. One of my goals for 2022 is to check out more books from this genre. Based on the mystery books I have read I couldn’t help but feel this one lacked the spark. I mean the characters were interesting and there was definitely character development which I loved.

The author was able to change my perspective on some of the characters I hated/found incredibly annoying in the beginning ehem Addy. I was rooting for multiple ships like Nate and Browyn, Addie and Cooper and so on but still the story failed to keep me super hooked. I mean I was interested but I wasn’t obsessed. That being said I don’t necessarily think it was overhyped, although some people might find it incredibly underwhelming. I mean because I don’t read mystery novels that often I can’t really tell if the plot was predictable because I didn’t actually guess what happened to Simon till right before it was revealed.

Some of the characters felt incredibly unnecessary and the whole Jake thing was kind of weird like that came from nowhere. Despite this critic I give the book 4 stars because the book made me interested enough to find out what happens to Simon. I feel like one thing that is incredibly hard to accomplish is to create a fast paced but not rushed story in a novel. I think that author did well but the book could’ve been better.

Even though I am not really a writer I have to say there were a lot of weird plot twists and facts that didn’t make any sense. Like the story moved to fast, without covering critical points. Even so I do recommend it as it is an interesting, fast paced mystery that may be able to keep you entertained. Although it’s different for everyone so don’t expect be A GRADE. I hope the second book is better than the first and I am excited to read the authors other works. I have heard recently heard there is a show so I am excited to check that out as well.

Absolutely amazing murder mystery with lots of high school drama and teen life shenanigans!!

How important it is for teens to be seen, to be heard, to be have and be a part of a big social circle.?? So important that it blurs the lines between the right and the wrong!

I simply did not enjoy this since the plot was a little too predictable for me,as someone who consumes a lot of thrillers and murder mysteries.You can smell this from a mile away.

Only thing that made me give this book 3 stars was the unexpected romance,a little cliche but still very promising.I liked the development of the characters and Bronwyn and Nate’s relationship.

What I was not comfortable with, was using sexuality as a plot twist,but i won’t get into that….

Still this book was far better t ...more

ok this is officially now one of the BEST books that existed in the whole world! what was I thinking all this time without reading it?!? like seriously, if you haven't read this book yet, and are somewhat doubting it, I'm telling you that you should definitely try this out - even if it isn't your genre. but really, thank you so much to whoever it was that convinced / recommended this book - I can't thank you enough for introducing me to such a book - one that definitely places me on the edge all ...more
