Tahir Shah's memoir about his decision to move his London family to the exotic landscape of Morocco is a colorful and interesting one, as memoirs go. Shah illuminates much about Moroccan society and culture - and more than a little about Shah's own assumptions and cultural identity, too. While I found this book engaging and surprisingly relevant to my academic interests (significant discussion of al Qaeda, Islamist extremism, and the intersections between Moroccan and Afghan culture), I was more ...more
