Although I really enjoyed this scary horror novel, a few issues keep me from a better rating. 1) I knew too early the cause of the sickness, although not the intricacies of the family's history 2) the use of the F-word (in various grammatical forms) did not ring true for the time period 3) it was too "fantasy" for me.

What I liked: The usual gothic motifs were there, the description of the house and its surrounds created a movie in my head, and the heroine was smart and sassy.
