buddy read with halima!
this was a great conclusion to the trilogy.

Overall Rating: B+
"I am the Sun Summoner. It gets dark when I say it does.

So this book is my favorite out of the trilogy. And I think it's because all the bullshit of the "who do I love", and "who do I trust" and the drama of the love triangle was basically done. Yes, Alina is still in shock and depressed and ashamed and uncertain of herself, but her goal is now clear: stop The Darkling(view spoiler) ...more

Love the book!
Not the ending I expected, but I wished to have learned even more about the Darkling's past. I hate that this book sends the message to girls that the only way to be happy is if you give up all your power and settle with a man. Because he's an insecure little POS who cannot handle a woman being more powerful than him. ...more

I have to say that ending was just right. I know books don't always end in a way that readers like but It's been a while since I was this satisfied with a book's ending.
The book is the third and last in the series and despite that it wasn't so long or tedious.
A lot more action was going on, Mal and Alina developed well. Nikolai is still the amazing character that he is. He continued to surprise me.

I have heard from multiple readers of Leigh Bardugo's work that of all her series and stories, this is their least favorite. Not because it is bad, but because the others outshine by that much. If this is her "worst," I really look forward to reading the rest of her works (currently starting Six of Crows now).
Things I loved:
-the worldbuilding
-the folklore
-the character Nikolai
Things not loved:
-the way the darkling's arc played out

Ok so I’m going back and rating a 3.5 which means I round up to 4. Full review to come. All I can say for now is the following are amplified:
I have zero sympathy for The Darkling. There was no turning back after Book 1; no backstory that redeemed him. Alina was never going to end up with him; they aren’t compatible.
I like Mal. I like his character. He’s real; unlikable, insecure, and immature, but real. Mal grew over the course of the trilogy and is the only one who makes sense for Alina. And h ...more

The rest of the series was really good, but for some reason in this book, Alina gets annoyingly proud of her powers. Any time she had to ask someone to do something she'd say, "Well, you have to because I'm the Sun Summoner." I know she was playing a part but she was enjoying it too much. She would also go around telling people she is a Saint and being extremely obnoxious about it. She also started treating Mal like crap. She was the main problem. I did love some of the new characters though.
