Wow, this is one book that I think everyone should read.

This was first published in 1949. It was definitely ahead of its time; and predicts modern day times.
A very eerie read; Orwell envisioned the future!

Does 2 + 2 = 4?
Will it always be 4?
Not if Big Brother says different.

1984 is now.

This is my 3rd read and each time I find myself questioning more and more, if this is art imitating life or life imitating art.

Hey guys, I just finished George Orwell's 1984, and whew... my mind hurts. Just the sheer complexity the novel inspires is hard for one to comprehend. Not sure if you guys will or have read it, so I'm just gonna lay out all my thoughts. I actually had to long my thoughts ever so pages cause I wasnt sure if I'd maintain them in the long run. Okay, so first, I can appreciate and also be annoyed with the amount of detail portraying to the dynamics. Also, it's kinda bard to retain previous words bec Hey guys, I just finished George Orwell's 1984, and whew... my mind hurts. Just the sheer complexity the novel inspires is hard for one to comprehend. Not sure if you guys will or have read it, so I'm just gonna lay out all my thoughts. I actually had to long my thoughts ever so pages cause I wasnt sure if I'd maintain them in the long run. Okay, so first, I can appreciate and also be annoyed with the amount of detail portraying to the dynamics. Also, it's kinda bard to retain previous words because it's kinda a bit loose through the page. My brain was blasted with so much intel it was hard to think straight, or should I say, doublethink(ha. No? okay). Another I found in this book was that the children are vicious little savages who are brainwashed and manipulated probably. Also, sentence struck a chord within me, dunno why "He was a lonely ghost uttering the truth no one would ever hear" when my eyes flitted across it. Additionally, I thought it was diabolically so that they mess with peoples minds by partially making one converse on what was the true dimension of reality. Likewise, they rewrite the past and the real past fades away, so in the end, no one knows the real truth except what is spoon fed to them(SO much for the Ministry of Truth being anything but truthful!). Following this further, it kinda reminds me of the novel Glitched by saying thatindependent thinking is a crime. Therefore, one has to act like a robot or face punishment. Additionally, they kill desire, or just make that "natural instinct" appear to be below them *sighs*. To me, this book is deep, portrayed in lines such as "if both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable-what then." Who truly owns the might to say that a certain ideal is real or unreal. How could one go against essence philosophy, reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It should exist interchangeablely. Winston loosely defined freedom as "freedom is the freedom to that two plus two equals four" . Another ideal that gripped my conscious was "Facts, at any rate,could not be kept hidden. They could be tracked down by inquiry, could be squeezed out by torture. But if the object was not to stay alive but to stay human. what difference did it ultimately make?" My terms, you can take humans out of humanity, but cant take humanity out of humans. Now towards the end I was just so mixed up in the plotlines. In other words, I could barely make since out of what was happening other than Winston was caught, and then tortured. However, it does remind me of The Program when they took Winston to this place to correct his "insane" mind with unethical methods. In the end, I can definitely stand by the AfterWord statement in this novel that it is a mood, and a warning telling of the near despair about the future of man. Unless the course of history changes, men all over the world will lose their most human qualities, will become soulless automatons without conscious awareness. (Orwell, 1984). ...more
