I really struggled with the rating on this one.
I was tempted to give it two stars for various reasons which I will outline.
The Good
Well written
Spoke to my psyche
easy to read
pursue some interesting philosophical ideas
A lot of good information
The Bad
Chuck full of anecdotal "data"
The book is entirely too metaphysical
the author is anti-science and magical in his thought
there are just so many contradictions it is troubling
He ritualizes and mystifies food to an unnerving degree

This well written book is an eye opener about the food we eat. If you care at all about what you're eating, read this. The author offers some philosophical viewpoints as well, prodding the reader to examine his/her own beliefs and maybe to consider some new ones. This author is not against eating meat, lest you think that. Without directly saying so, he urges us to understand what nourishes us every day, where it comes from, what's in it, how it was managed along the way, and ultimately whether
