I slowly came to believe the author kept the reader in mystery, partly for intrigue of course, but also to make the situation seem more possible any time or place in the future.
It is horrifying to contemplate that an AI could ever replace a human!
The novel seems to beg the questions, are we simply a sum of our parts that can be duplicated artificially? Or are we each utterly irreplaceable? Do we have a soul?
I do not believe an AI robot capable of learning/acquiring the intuitive thoughtfulness

Shelves: read-in-2023, 3cs
Didn't like this at beginning, but decided to finish, since it was a book club selection( even tho I missed the meeting). Glad I stuck with it. The style of the prose was confusing at first, since it's narrated by the AI- character. Felt like there were a few threads of the story left unanswered, but would have had to have multiple pov's for that. Listened to audio book, narration well done. ...more
