Gregg Hurwitz is an author that I have been meaning to read for a while, an author on my radar with books that I have been recommended and seen some great reviews. So I went for the Orphan books knowing this would be my type of book. I was right !

Gregg Hurwitz brings us a cracking novel with a great character Evan Smoak, adopted as a child by a shadowy figure called Jack and trained to be an assassin as part of a secret US government scheme. Known as Orphan X meaning there were at least 23 other

Wow. WOW. W.O.W. 🤩
Greg hurwitz, where have you been and how did I miss you ? I love thrillers and espionage, and Orphan X is top drawer in this genre. I started decades ago with Tom Clancy, then David Baldacci, Vince Flynn and Mark Greaney but somehow Greg Hurwitz was not on my radar. My loss! Not only is Orphan X exciting, the premise is very unusual. Excellent start to a new series for me. Smoak might be another great character. This story was full of crazy stuff but it was enjoyable, even though it got pretty outlandish. I’m in on the rest of the series. Looks like it’s going to be a hell of a ride.

I read the blurb today, got the book today and read the book today and I am a fan. There is a perfect blend of backstory and the current story to build a rich world that shows a whole world of intrigue, isolation, family and society at its best and worst. The secondary characters are very vibrant and play crucial roles in this action packed story. There were shades of 007, Bourne Identity, the Hitman and more to this first book of what I anticipate being an epic series with government intrigue, ...more

Interesting character

I really enjoyed this first installment. Evan is sort of a cross between John Lago and the Gray Man. I look forward to further novels in this series.

I was so excited to discover a new series so was disappointed that I struggled with this. I almost quit several times but managed to power through. I struggled to care about the character as he came across as robotic at times. I didn't enjoy the flashbacks. The technical jargon often distracted me. I did enjoy the connection with the neighbor and child. I'm debating reading the next book in the series as I really want to give this character and author a chance! ...more
