i love movies, stories, or books about heists like carmen sandiego and money heist (i cant wait for season 5 btw! ) so i think, maybe i'll like this six of crows duology.

What was this madness? My brain cannot comprehend it.

The plot, the twists, the characters. Oh my gosh this was SO MUCH better than my first read, if that’s even possible!🙀

I originally rated this a two star, but in the seven minutes since I've put down my rating I've been thinking about other books I've rated two stars and why I rated them two stars and realized that this needed to be bumped down.

First of all, the characters. I was not interested in any of them. They all had the same sort of outline. They're fleeing from some kind of dark past and they all ended up in the same place that (1.4 star, DNF'd 234 pages in) Here we go. I had to find my notes for this.

First of all, the characters. I was not interested in any of them. They all had the same sort of outline. They're fleeing from some kind of dark past and they all ended up in the same place that made them edgy. I could connect with none of the characters and most of them were infuriating in some kind of way.

Next the romances that had just started blooming once I DNF'd it. Literally all of them had the same sort of dynamic. Big bad brooding guy with a character that's seems harmless but is not so harmless. Matthias and Nina infuriated me most of all. Matthias was a hard-headed bigot who couldn't see the other side of things if somebody took his eyes and chucked him to the other side of the world. Nina was the closest thing to a likable character that was in this book. I was honestly just waiting for Matthias to get chucked overboard.

Next, the writing. I usually don't criticize writing style because it's never really bothered me. I do have a preference, but it doesn't particularly bother me if it's bland. But holy hell for some reason it just irked me in this book how bland the writing was.

The jokes came off as forced and when a character was described as 'doubling over from laughter' I was like 'honey, where' and the interactions between characters provided no chemistry. When it was revealed that Kaz was having feelings for Inej, I was like 'nope, fuck this' and almost yeeted the book out the window. I didn't because it's snowing up a storm outside and I don't want to break my window and freeze my ass off, and this is a library book.

Overall, I was surprised of how much this book bored me. It seemed right up my alley but what I got was an overhyped book that had potential, but never explored it. And please don't pull the 'well, it gets better' card with me. I read 50% of this book. If I wasn't interested by then, it wasn't going to get better. This is now one of my favorite books, no words can describe how much I love this book. Thinking of this book brings me so much joy, and I think about it a lot since I think about it. AHH I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH, I AM GIDDY!

I have just finished reading this masterpiece. Am I broken? Yes. Can I wait 'till I can read 'Crooked Kingdom'? No. This book is really hyped but it's a super great work, I wasn't able to put it down. I liked that we could see what each character thought and the plot... wow!!

i absolutely adored this book. as my first read of 2021 my expectations were high and i can safely say that they have been met. this book has been sat on my shelf for a while now and i have tried reading it a few times (only a chapter or so) but i just couldnt get into it at all due to so many name drops and info dumps in the first few pages . however soon my heart had been won over by dirtyhands and his gang. all of the characters were so well thought out and somehow i loved every single one. i ...more

Totally deserves all the hype! I loved the actions and didn't find it slow at all! (This could be due to the fact that I'm just getting back into fantasy, and I'm honestly just used to reading contemporary.)
