Amazing!!!! I love love loved it! It was a fairy tale retelling, and yet still completely opposite of the fairy tale! I loved it and I definitely ship Sophia x Constance! I’ll edit this review and add more later!

Cinderella is Dead is amazing. It captivated me from beginning to end. It is a fairy tale retelling, but so totally opposite from the original story, and I abso Amazing!!!! I love love loved it! Cinderella is Dead is amazing. It captivated me from beginning to end. It is a fairy tale retelling, but so totally opposite from the original story, and I absolutely loved it! When thinking of Cinderella, I will always think of Sophia’s story. The plot was pretty basic, but amazing nonetheless. A fierce heroine is determined to fix her world so she can have a true happily ever after, and NOT the kind in fairy tales. You see, Cinderella didn’t have a happy ending. Yes, she married Prince Charming, but few people know that she originally came to Charming’s ball to murder him. You see, in this story Cinderella is long dead and Prince Charming is evil. Cinderella and her family had been planning for Cinderella to murder him at his ball. But when Prince Charming falls in love with Cinderella, the fairy godmother casts a spell so she, too, falls in love. Cinderella and the Prince marry, but after time Cinderella remembers. She remembers how she actually despises Prince Charming, and, starts plotting his demise again. She doesn’t want him to know she no longer cares for him, but she can’t really hide it. So Prince Charming tells the public Cinderella is sick, and locks Cinderella in her room. He doesn’t let her out. Then, Cinderella needs to get something to her step sister. But Cinderella is killed before she gets there, leaving the true history untold, all in an unfound journal, and Charmings version for the world.

Now that was all just what led up to the story. The story starts with Sophia Grimmins, on the night of Sophia’s first ball. Sophia doesn’t want to go, but she doesn’t have a choice. All girls are required to attend the ball, where men are able to stake their claim for them to marry. They only get three balls. Three strikes, and you’re out. So Sophia has to go to the ball, no matter how much she would rather stay home, marry her best friend, Erin. Then Sophia meets Luke. Luke isn’t like the other men in Lille. He doesn’t want to go to the ball, and he doesn’t want a wife. He wanted to marry his friend, but his friend (I’m sorry I forgot his name) is taken away, because the king doesn’t approve of same sex relationships. So when Sophia sees him at the ball, she is surprised. But Luke comes to her with an offer: they could marry, and while neither loved the other, at least they wouldn’t hate each other, and bonus, they could plot to overthrow Manford! But then en enemy of Luke’s stakes a claim on Sophia, just because he doesn’t like Luke. Luke and him get into a fight, and then Luke is taken away. Maybe killed. Maybe imprisoned. Sophia doesn’t know yet. So Sophia escapes, gets lost, and finds herself in with a descendant of Cinderella’s stepsister. Constance and Sophia escape together, and eventually they overthrow King Manford/Charming! So, I was a bit vague on the detail in the end, in case you read this (I warned you!) and you know still plan on reading this. And I define you reccomend! It is an amazing book, and I really want like a prequel or something on Cinderella’s story!

This was one action-packed standalone and I'm here for it!

The storyline is mind glowingly creative and atmospheric. The author manages to create perfect scenery and makes us feel exactly what the character is feeling.

The book follows Sophia, an average girl in the town of Lile. We see her opposing the ideals of the patriarchal society from the beginning and see her actually make her words come true. The adventure she goes through to make that happen include red-headed beauties, scary forests an ...more

I LOVED THIS BOOK.

It had everything I could’ve asked for and I loved both Constance and Sophia. Also Manford was a great villain.

I loved the way it retold the Cinderella story and really made me rethink it.

I left this book feeling so inspired and I love how the book dealt with sexism and homophobia only adding to the powerfulness you feel whilst reading it.

I was going to give it a 4.5 but the plot twist shocked me so much I made it a 5

Could not recommend enough!!
