The Martian is a book I wouldn’t normally read- but with the previews for the movie, and my husband reading it and loving it, I thought I’d give it a go. I’m glad I did. It was one of the most entertaining audio books I’ve listened to. There was simply one reason I enjoyed this book so much- and that reason is Mark Watney.
“He’s stuck out there. He thinks he’s totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man’s psychology?” He turned back to Venkat.

The Martian

I thought I was going to like this book a lot more than I did. I'm sure this is one of those that the movie is much better than the book. The concept of the story was very good but there was way to much technical information for me. All in all I gave it three stars because I would definitely take the time to watch the movie.

I've been meaning to read this for a while after hearing about it on the 365 days of astronomy podcast. I felt with the film version imminent it was high time I delved in and I'm so glad I have. From listening to the podcast they explain that the science is pretty much spot on which just added to my sense of awe - and also adrenaline levels while reading. I laughed out loud more times from reading this book than any book in recent memory. This is science fiction for folks who "don'tlike science fiction." It's THAT entertaining, emotionally accessible, sspenseful, and just plain wonderful. So glad I read it. ...more
