I walked in a bit hesitantly but I ended up really liking this one. Ilona Andrews creates a multi-layered world with various aliens, werewolves, vampires, and of course, innkeepers. I did struggle a bit getting into the world because it feels a bit like a spin-off series. I kept wondering if maybe another series existed about her parents or brother or something. Solid 4.5 star book, rounded up to 5.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was well written, with interesting characters and it built up an especially fascinating world that combines magic and sci-fi in a wonderful way.

There ain't no real vacations without an Ilona Andrews book... :-)
I liked this book, just missed a bit more description and focus on the main character herself, especially when all side characters, even the dead dogs, got good descriptions.
The sci-fi and fantasy story world felt a bit rushed at times too, but I hope to get to know more about it in the next books of this series that I'll be following for sure. ...more

This was fun and I liked the idea of the Inns, but I didn't feel especially connected to the characters. I enjoyed it enough to get book 2 though, so we'll see if I eventually get more into it
