I enjoyed this one overall. A fun, action-packed creature story. A bit slow at times but it has interesting characters and some good ‘ol gore and blood to make it very readable. A fun time!

Creepy mermaids, scientific approach, cilate change awareness, LGBT+ pairing, well done inclusion of deaf characters.

That book would've been SO good if it wasn't for the idiot plot. The team of professionals sent to the Mariana Trench didn't act really professional. More like a bunch of reckless morons. The crew tells me to come to the surface because it's not safe? Nope, not gonna do it because it's fun here, wheeeee. The ship is getting attacked? Let's act dumb as hell so things HAVE to go wro

I loved this book, it was extremely charming. The writing was not great. Redundant and way too long. Vacillated between relatively normal writing and overly adventurous prose. Unwieldy and no coherent style. However, the author clearly tried really hard to incorporate lots of diverse identities and give them respect - neurotypicality, deafness, queerness, sort of race, etc. I was committed to the story from early on and did not want to stop reading.
