What Members Thought

"If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse."
I don't know how to even start expressing my feelings for this book. For starters, this surpassed all my expectations. Faerie is an awesome place. The people...not so much.
Speaking of which, let's talk about the characters.
Jude

Plot
Jude is a 17-year-old who has witnessed her parents die right in front of her. She and her sisters, Vivian and Taryn, are forced to leave their home and go to the kingdom of Elfhame with the stranger who killed their parents and claims to have been their mother's husband. So they find themselves in a society that despises mortals. And the youngest Prince, Cardan, is determined to make the sister's lives a living hell. You know what... I'm going to stop there! status: shocked as heck that i liked this book
i was kind of scared to read this, tbh, because the hype is insane and i had a feeling i was going to hate it and scar the bookish world fOrEvEr!

but... *drumroll* i liked it. and im lowkey shook.
not that i loved it, of course. i find jude kind of annoying (sorry, bookish world) and at first i didn't like the whole jude/cardan equation, though it's growing on me.
but anyways. for a book with a lot of positive hype, which usually scares me off, i liked ...more

I really did end up enjoying this reread of the cruel Prince, but if there's one thing I didn't like about it it's the fact that this book is mainly advertised as a enemies to lovers fantasy book, and sometimes I just don't think that's accurate because it does contain a lot of more "political"(idk how else to word it) View and how Jude tries to climb the ranks of power/ ...more

Loved Jude and to an extent Cardan was interesting but they were just a little... I don’t know? Simple maybe?
There were parts I loved. I enjoyed Jude at points and at other points I just wanted to shake her.
Interesting world, interesting premise but a lacked delivery. I did enjoy the writing style a lot so I am keen to read more of her work.
The argument regarding abuse as a plot point and point of character development has been brought up by numerous reviews and I agree it’s a huge r ...more

♦️Cruel Prince by Holly Black is a YA high fantasy novel filled with loads of drama, romance and politics.
♦️Enemies to Lovers
♦️It has a cunningly smart, wicked and strong heroine.
♦️The hero as the title suggests is cruel alright or at least that’s what we think but he has many layers that unravel throughout this series.
♦️Goodreads rating: 4.12/5
♦️Pages: 370
♦️And for all you binge readers this is part one of a series and it’s a trilogy. Lucky for you all three books are released.
