Wow. If you don’t like to cry when you’re reading, this book may not be for you. I haven’t read a book that I felt as connected to the characters and was as enthralled in the story as I felt in this book. Reading about the Holocaust is always hard, and being Jewish can make it even harder. I think Kristin Hannah does a wonderful job of showing us the smaller heroes of the war, as well as showing us how hard it was to be anyone, not just a prisoner, during the war.

This was another book club read! I have to tell y’all, this book had me in full on tears multiple times. The story follows two sisters during WWII and how they both wrestle with who they are and what their role in the war effort is—or should be—all while trying to survive in 1940s France.
