I was anxious to read The Night Watchman. I had read most of Louise Erdrich's books and thought they were really well written. The Night Watchman didn't disappoint. It takes place primarily in North Dakota at the Turtle Mountain Reservation. Some of the story happens in the Twin Cities of Minnesota.

The Night Watchman is an enjoyable read. It moves quickly. The characters, setting, and storyline are all compelling. It provides a wonderful view into Native American life in the 1950s.

I first heard of Louise Erdrich in high school, my English teacher loved her books. I can't remember if I read one of them then or not...it's been 20+ years...but maybe The Beet Queen?

Anyway, Erdrich is an incredible author. This novel won the Pulitzer. It's wonderful. You should read it. For a real review, follow Ron Charles. ...more
