After reading "The Warmth of Other Suns," I was excited to read that Isabel Wilkerson had written another book and I quickly reserved it at my library. Now that I've finished this book Caste, I have to say that I'm somewhat disappointed.

"The Warmth of Other Suns" told the stories of three African-Americans who had escaped the South of the United States to join the Great Migration of African-Americans to the North in search of better lives. Reading their stories made the history of this immigrati

This is a must read for any American. I am going to swap out some sections in my course on privilege with chapters from this book. Her thesis is clear and driven home in every chapter. The US is a caste system, and in some ways is harsher than the caste systems in India and under the Nazi regime. And unlike Nazi Germany's caste system, the US system is still alive, well, and functioning in the US. ...more
