Anne Shirley is an orphaned girl adopted my Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert at age eleven. Marilla and Matthew are silbings. Anne is a very imagative young girl and can see beauty in all things despite her circumstances. We see her grow over the next five years into a remarkable young woman. The growth in Anne is paled by the growth and love of Marilla who turns from being harsh to revealing her true feelings.

This was such a wonderful heart warming story of a young orphaned girl who gets on with what life has doled out to her by using her imagination. I wish I had read this when I was a young girl as it is so inspiring and it did take me back to my own childhood memories. My life was nothing even remotely comparable to what Anne had endured. The author created a memorable character in Anne and the way she interacted with the other people who became part of her life. A very enjoyable read.
