This is a quick and easy read. As with the other Ellen Hopkins books I have read, this too is written in verse. It tells the story of a teenaged girl who grows up in a Mormon family and discovers the true meaning of love when she is sent away to live with her aunt (a less religiously devout member of her family) for a summer.

Quick review for a quick read that I picked up from my library's audio collection. Powerful and really wonderful character exploration, which is typical of Ellen Hopkins's books. Pattyn is a young woman living in a tightly knit religious community and abusive household. She strongly laments her inability to grow as a young woman - in relationships, in asserting herself among other things - as well as watching her mother being subjected to her father's fists. Review from 2010: OMG. Burned is my favorite book by Ellen Hopkins and one of my favorite books. Pattyn was an amazing character who's struggles were hard and unfair. I can't wait to read the sequel to this book, Smoke, so I can find out what happens next.

Love Ellen Hopkins, definitely one of my favorite authors and this book was pretty good. Not as good as some of her other stuff that I have read. This isn't a story that I haven't heard before. obviously the characters are different and what not but the Mormon living a shit life and discovering all these amazing things that are usually not allowed like sex and boys and drinking etc.
