This book has a slow start and was a hard read in the beginning. But, ends on a high note. I learned much about how the political system created the War on Drugs and systemically engulfed black men as the target with the judicial system turning colorblind. The book is full of law cases, statistics, interviews, and facts that are surprising and contradicts a lot of mainstream thinking. A book that has raised my awareness of "Color Conscienceness" instead of practicing "Color Blindness" and the huge industrial mass incarceration system or as referred to in the book as "Systemic Mass Incarceration". I thought I was doing well in the practice of judging all not by the color of their skin but by the content of their heart. But now, I severely question my status quo in this regards...I have a lot to do in my awareness of the plight of those of color. ...more
