So, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is incredibly hyped. I think that factored into why I put off reading it for so long. However, after seeing the trailer for the film, I decided to check it out and I really liked it. I do think that it's slightly overhyped, though.

To be fair, I'm definitely not in this book's demographic so I know I can be a bit harsh on the plot points that were convenient or contrived. That being said, I really liked the way the author and the story called out prejudices of different sorts. I have mad respect for an author who makes me think, "Ooh, you knew better than to make that assumption/hold that stereotype" when I think I'm just going to be reading a fluffy YA romance. “It is definitely annoying that straight (and white, for that matter) is the default, and that the only people who have to think about their identity are the ones who don't fit that mold. Straight people really should have to come out, and the more awkward it is, the better. Awkwardness should be a requirement.”
