A incredible, emotional, and powerful book about - like Pachinko - a country and history I knew nothing about. Thanks to Adichie's flawed characters, we get to experience Nigeria in the 60's, and the bloody, complicated war about Biafra. The ending especially was bittersweet, but that is war too; violence, starvation, and uncertainty. What a powerful book. ...more

Reading this book in time of corona gave me hope, that people can go through things that are much worse, and still try to live their lives. The main characters are resilient and strong, yet very human.

I found the book sometimes hard to read because of the horrible events it tells about. Before reading it, I didn't know very much about the war, and only when I was at about 2/3 of the book I connected the pictures that I remember seeing of hunger in Africa were actually pictures from hunger during
