What Members Thought

“Can I tell you a secret, Ari?”
“Can I stop you?”
“You don’t like knowing my secrets.”
“Sometimes your secrets scare me.”
Dante laughed. “I wasn’t really kissing Daniel. In my head, I was kissing you.”
I had originally set 50 books as my reading challenge when I returned to Goodreads last July. This is the 50th read in 5 months so yaaaay~
I had a slow burn relationship with Ari and Dante. I was actually contemplating to DNF this one or get back at this another time. But I gave it a chance.. well ...more

I loved this book. I think it's a story that either really connects for you or doesn't at all. I wasn't so sure about it for some, in the beginning, but not too far in I really loved the characters. They're such individuals. They don't really fit into any stereotypes for teens. It made them feel more realistic. I really liked being inside their heads and witnessing them growing up as issues happened. ♥︎

A coming-of-age story about family and identity. Ari has twin sisters who are much older than him, a brother in prison that no one talks about and no friends - until he meets Dante at the pool one Summer. It took me a little while to connect with the story but by the end I really appreciated its sweetness and warmth, it's a quick, feel-good read.

Lin-Manuel Miranda did such a great job narrating this book. Said this on tumblr but my feelings about the audiobook can be summed up like this:
Two things are made 10000% more palpable in the Ari and Dante audiobook:
1) how in love Ari is with Dante
2) how clueless Ari is for not realizing he's in love with Dante
I loved it. This book remains my favorite for a reason. ...more
