What Members Thought

This story is pretty remarkable, and although it is well-written, the tone and the way this is done got under my skin. For much of the story the protagonist is not interested in anything, or maybe he is not able to understand emotion, which leads him to be so not active and definitely unemotional. He kills someone, does not help in his own defence in court, and although he will be executed, seemingly had the best time of his life in prison.

This work was difficult for me to review, I am at a loss so I researched the book and read some of the Spark notes on it, which actually didn't help me. The author gives us a protagonist that I just couldn't get the measure of. Described as an ordinary man, good worker, acquires a girlfriend apparently of a countenance that attracts others but yet his actions or thoughts don't appear the least bit ordinary.
