The Namesake is an exquisitely detailed family saga. I cried in the last 2 pages as it's true, sad even, that we don't "get" our fathers sometimes until years after they die. The author captures the joy and the zen of how interwoven our lives are with those we love; how dependent on unknown and mysterious ways passed to us by our families through generations. This book struck a cord deep within me. Any novel that describes the immigrant experience is a hit with me. Though I am many generations American, I also come from a different cultural background then alot of people I know. "Fitting in", not belonging to a group, the pressure from family and friends to be more like this and less like that is something I am very familiar with.
