I am not completely sure what to make out of this book. Is it worth reading? Yes, I think so. Did everything make complete sense to me? No. What I did not like was how this Underground Railway was shown. Maybe that was just my misled expectation, but I would seriously have liked a little more historical accuracy around this. I swear, the Pulitzer is to novels what the Oscar is to film.

The gimmick here is what every seven-year-old thinks when they hear the term 'Underground Railroad.' That's it. That's the bit that makes this 'science fiction.'

The rest of the story is about an unstoppable bounty hunter who follows the protagonist from refuge to refuge committing acts of terror. It's really just so much torture porn.

Shelves: slavery, race, fantasy
Complicated structure and hard to read; also too many characters, and I can´t empathise with them, as they´re drawn so clinical. One star more than I´d given, due to the relevant theme.
